We've all done it. When we are leaving home, we usually give or being given a long list of do's and don'ts. "Don't forget to water the lawn. Don't forget to put the garbage out. Don't forget to write." This final section is just like that. It contains at least twenty short phrases covering everything from "Don't forget to pay the pastor" to "Don't forget to pray for us". Paul always had a practical application to whatever truth he taught. For example look at verse 23, "May you be sanctified and kept blameless." What does that mean in daily living? Do you realize that we are in the present tense of our salvation? The past has been forgiven and the future in heaven is yet to come. Right now in the present, God wants to work in our lives to make us more like his Son in every part of our lives. Notice the words "wholly" or "through and through" in verse 23. To be sanctified is firstly to be set apart to God for His use. For God to use us, we need to be made clean and kept clean. Someone has said that three words sum up the meaning of sanctification: Separation, Dedication, and Transformation. Separation is from the world and also separation unto God. Dedication is giving us to Him. Transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives day by day. God does His part as we live daily in obedience to His Word. Therefore we need to read His Word and study what it means for ourselves. If we do our part, God will do His. A VERSE FOR TODAY AND EVERYDAY: "The One who calls you is faithful and He will DO IT." You cannot exhaust the faithfulness of God. It is unchanging. It never fails. Quietly count on His faithfulness today and every day. |
