Let's stop and think about the names of God and the beautiful descriptions of what God does, as seen in these three verses. Notice the first one in verse 5. Our wonderful God can give endurance, encouragement, and unity. Think of all that means. Endurance, you can call it patience or steadfastness. We are so often tempted to give up. When we are tempted to do so, let's remember that our wonderful God can help us go on and go through. He also gives encouragement. There is nothing we need more. A word of encouragement at the right moment can make all the difference in our battle of life. God can also give a spirit of unity. How easy it is for Christians to be divided. Verse 6 says God can enable us to have one heart and one mouth. Is this one of the greatest needs in many groups of believers today? Then verse 13 tells us that our wonderful God is a God of hope. The word "hope" is not a weak, indefinite word referring to something which may or may not happen. It stands for our confidence in God, based on God's faithfulness. Hope comes from remembering what God has done for us and what He has promised. The result (v.13) of believing in our hope in God is joy and peace. In verse 33 our wonderful God is called the God of peace. Paul himself faced constant danger and opposition, but he knew continually the abiding peace of God, personally and deeply. He included the word peace over 40 times in his epistles. We can know it too as we trust in the same God. What can our wonderful God give us? They are endurance, encouragement, unity, hope, joy, and peace. Do we need anything more? Why not thank Him again today? A VERSE FOR TODAY: "God.....has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ." (Ephesians 1:3) |
