The first verse of this chapter is one of the greatest verses for a Christian in the New Testament. Would you read it again please? Do you realize there are two voices constantly speaking to us, Christians? There is the voice of the Holy Spirit and that of our enemy, Satan. How can we tell the difference? The voice of Satan will always be words of condemnation or temptation such as, "You are a failure as a Christian. Look at what you did today." Satan will try to make us look only at ourselves, our failures, or it will try to tempt us to go on in sin. But our verse tells us we are no longer under condemnation. When the Spirit of God speaks to us, it will not be a voice of discouragement. It may be a specific word of conviction but never sweeping statements made by our enemy. The Holy Spirit may say, "Yes, you did sin but Jesus died for you and He has covered your sin." Isn't that different? The Holy Spirit wants to lead us to a place of confession and restoration of fellowship with Christ, but He will never condemn. Then when we get home to heaven, there will be no condemnation. There will be an examination of what service we have done for Christ here and only a loving and glorious welcome. That will be a wonderful day! But while we are here on earth, we need to remember which voice we are to listen to. Learn that first verse by heart. "There is no condemnation....." A VERSE TO REMEMBER: "Know the truth and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32) |
