What wonderful experiences Peter had while he was following Christ! There were failures too. But that makes us feel closer to him. Along the way we have our moments of rich blessing but sometimes we also know failure. We are so human at times, aren't we? So was Peter. Think of some of the incidents we know about while Peter was with Christ. Watch him as he jumped overboard in the middle of a severe storm to walk to Christ. Would any of us be that brave? Don't blame him for taking his eyes off Christ. We would have done the same. Go with Peter into the room where the body of a little girl lay (Luke 8). He stood quietly (for once!) while Christ took the girl's hand and brought her back to life. What do you think Peter thought? When some great new blessing comes into our lives, would our thoughts be much the same as Peter's in the little girl's room that day? Then stand with Peter when Christ asked them all the recurring questions: "Who do men say that I am? Who do you say that I am?" Others could think what they liked, but for Peter, there was only one answer. "You are the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God!" He didn't hesitate because he believed it. Then see him in the Upper Room not wanting the Saviour to wash his feet. You would never be in any doubt as to what Peter was thinking. Some of us need a bit more speech and a lot less silence when it comes to speaking about or for Christ. We may make mistakes, but at least people will know where we stand. LORD MAKE US MORE LIKE PETER, BUT BEST OF ALL MAKE US MORE LIKE CHRIST |
