CHRIST OUR SUBSTITUTE One day just as Christ was about to begin His short public ministry, He was suddenly and publicly identified as 'the Lamb of God'. The story is well known. It was John the Baptist, Christ's forerunner who dramatically pointed to Jesus and said to his disciples and the crowd standing nearby, 'Look, there He is. The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.' In some ways John's statement was an answer to a question asked 2000 years previously. Isaac questioned his father, 'Where is the Iamb for the sacrifice?' Abraham's answer was remarkable. 'God Himself will provide the Iamb.' In Jesus Christ God did just that. He had provided the sacrifice on Mt.. Moriah. He did it again on Mount Calvary. Christ did what we could not do. He paid the price, the penalty for our sins. He was our substitute in death. Then He rose again and now He can be our substitute in life as well as in death. He is the living Christ (Romans 5:10), and lives in the heart of every believer enabling that believer to daily live for Him. Do you remember the wonderful release from the guilt of sin which came to you when you accepted Christ? You saw Christ as your substitute and were so glad to know what He had done for you. Now with Christ in your life that same joy can be yours, for example as you deal with temptation. Let Christ handle it. Let him be your substitute in life in any problem you face. Leave it to him to resolve. He has broken the power of sin by His death. Now let Him prove this to you in your life day by day. Christ died. That is historical fact. Christ is alive. That can be a present experience to see what the living Christ can do in your daily life as you allow Him. OUR VERSE FOR TODAY: 'I no longer live but Christ lives in me. '(Galatians 2:20) |
