WALKING AND WORKING BY FAITH This whole chapter says to us that faith works under all kinds of circumstances and for all classes of people. There was Moses the prince, Abraham the cattleman, David the king and Samuel the prophet and priest. Today we look at two others, Enoch and Noah. 'Enoch walked with God' is how Genesis describes his life. He did not live in easy days. They led up to the flood, which came because of man's terrible sinfulness. Yet even then Enoch knew fellowship with God. How? By trusting God day by day and seeking to do what God said. That is still the secret of blessing. Enoch's great-grandson was Noah. God spoke to Noah and warned him of a coming judgment. Noah believed what God had told him about a flood even though no-one had ever seen such a thing. Noah acted. He built the ark God had told him to build. Faith worships in God's way. Faith walks in God's way. Faith works in God's way and finds that God always keeps his word. Faith accepts the fact that God is a God of judgment. That is not always easy to do. How many lost their lives in the flood of Noah's time. We don't know but only eight were saved out of all the people on earth then. No doubt Noah and his family must have talked together about relatives and friends who did not accept the ark as a means of salvation. Their hearts must have been heavy but they accepted the truth that God is not only a God of love and mercy, but also a God of judgment. He must deal with sin. Ahead of us is the return of Christ. It is going to mean salvation and blessing for us but judgment for the rest of the world. Are we doing what Noah did- warning men and women of judgment that is coming? A PRAYER: Lord help me tell someone of their need of Christ today. |
