There are five major points to be noted in the call and to equip Ezekiel as a messenger of the Lord. These are still important today for any believer who desires to serve the Lord. Firstly, Ezekiel had a vision of God and His sovereignty. Today we may not see visions as He did but we ourselves need to be gripped by the same great important truths which impressed Ezekiel. Secondly, in verse 28 Ezekiel tells us he heard the voice of God. Coupled with the vision came the voice. Ezekiel continued to listen to that voice. In the first four chapters, Ezekiel spoke only once (4:14). God's voice to us today is heard as we read and study His Word. Next, the Spirit of God came upon him. (2:2) The Spirit of God was his source of strength and the communicator of God's message to Ezekiel. The application of this truth to every believer is very obvious. Christ Himself said the Holy Spirit would be our teacher and guide as well as our source of power. In 3:1-3 we see that the Word of God was given to Ezekiel to eat-in other words, to make it part of himself. We might not literally eat the Word, but it must have the predominant place in every section of our lives, now and always. (Psalm 1:1-3) In 3:15 Ezekiel identified himself with the people - he sat among them. He had a message for them but he didn't stand aloof or give the message and then leave. He made himself one with them - an important lesson for us all in reaching others. Go over those five points again and let the Spirit of God apply them deeply on your heart and your service for Christ. They are the pathway to successful service for him. |
