Ezekiel has given us some of the most remarkable prophecies ever to be fulfilled in exact detail. Three chapters are devoted to the fate of one city, Tyre. They are chapters 26, 27, and 28. There were at least seven specific predictions which Ezekiel made against Tyre, which at that time was one of the greatest trading nations of the world. It was the capital city of Phoenicia and had the finest ships and the best sailors. It could be called the Hong Kong of the ancient world. It is said to have developed the use of money instead of simple barter. History tells us that Nebuchadnezzar came against Tyre in fulfillment of verses 7-9. He carried out siege for 13 years until the city finally capitulated. Only then did he discover that the people of Tyre had moved most of the city to an island off shore. It was left to Alexander the Great, almost 240 years later, to fulfil more of Ezekiel's prophecies (see v.12). His troops demolished what was left of the city and threw the stones into the ocean, thus fulfilling Ezekiel's prophecy literally. Can we trust the Word of God? The answer is a strong "yes". The unity of the book and the many instances of fulfilled prophecy are proofs of its divine inspiration. There are many who have laughed at theBible. Critics have dismissed Biblical prophecy saying it is "history written after the event". But God chose various men and women through whom He revealed future events and many of these prophecies have come true. Others are still to be fulfilled. TheBible is God's Word. Believe it. Trust it. Accept it. TheBible will always be what it is - God's inspired message to the world and, in particular, to His children. Let's thank Him for it again today. |
