Some of the most beautiful tributes to the Holy Spirit were given by Christ himself, particularly in these chapters of John's Gospel. Here in John 14:26 Christ speaks of the Holy Spirit as our teacher. That is a wonderful promise which should encourage us greatly as we read the Bible. Do you want to get to know the Word of God for yourself? Do you want to get something from it for yourself each day? Then recognize that your teacher is really the indwelling Spirit of God who longs to do in your life what he came to do. We cannot say that often enough. Remember also that as he teaches, he guides. Turn to John 16:13 and read the promise of Christ in those words. The Holy Spirit is our guide as well as our teacher. He will not only guide us regarding doctrine, but also show us the will of God for our lives as well. These are some of our privileges as God's children. Paul says, in 1 Corinthians 2:14, that the natural man cannot understand the Bible. But the spiritual man can do so because the Holy Spirit will throw light on to it as he reads it. Let us thank God today for the work of the Holy Spirit as shown to us by the Word of God. A PRAYER: 'Blessed Holy Spirit, live through me today. I would be like Jesus, pure in every way. Guide me, teach me ever what I ought to know. Fill me with Thy fullness, till I overflow.' |
