One truth which Christ repeated over and over while he was here on earth is that when we pray we are talking to our heavenly Father. Before we can even enjoy the privilege of prayer, we need to be born into God's family. When we become God's child we can look up into his face and commerce our prayers with those two beautiful words, 'Our Father'. Christ always did and so should we. Secondly, when we pray we need to be sincere. We are not praying so that others can hear how well or how loudly we can speak. We will not always be able to go into another room and pray by ourselves. Sometimes we are asked to lead a church gathering in prayer. Often we stop to pray with friends or our families. What Christ is saying here is 'Be sincere when you pray, remembering what you are doing and to whom you are praying'. Thirdly, remember God your father knows what you need before you ask, but he wants you to come to him and ask as a child asks for food when he is hungry. Lastly, just ask God for today's needs 'Give us day by day our daily bread'. There is no need to be concerned about the future. Leave the future in God's hands and walk through today with your hand in his. A THOUGHT: Who am I praying to? A God who doesn't care or my heavenly Father who loves me more than anyone else? |
