Have you ever heard someone ask this question, 'If the Christian life is so wonderful and if God is supposed to take care of you and love you, why is it that those who aren't Christians, who never seem to think about God, always seem to have the best things in life?' What is the answer? Those who are not Christians do seem to have a good time – sometimes. And being a Christian does not mean we are free from suffering or hardship. What is a Christian supposed to do? The answer is here in this Psalm. In every situation put yourself in God's hands and leave yourself there. Look at verse 5. Can you write it out in your own words? Here is one way to rewrite it. 'Throw yourself and your whole life unreservedly upon God. He will bring about all your faith expects him to do and even more as well.' Try writing it out but at the same time write it in your heart and do exactly what the verse says to do. Verse 7 speaks about resting and waiting for him. We could say, 'Don't be jealous of anything that happens to someone else. Don't become bitter over it. Just wait for the Lord to show his plan and purpose in his own good time.' God has an overall plan for us. Look at verse 23. 'The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.' Sometimes it may look as if the way the Lord allows us to go is the very opposite of what we think is best for us. But he knows best and later we will see his perfect plan for us. Here is a song of faith to sing today. 'All the way my Saviour leads me What have I to ask beside? Shall I doubt his tender mercy Who through life has been my guide?' |
