DAY 19
BIBLE READING: 1 Peter 2:11-25
Several times in the New Testament we are given a list of directions for our lives as Christians. Let's make a list of the ones mentioned in this passage.
- Live a pure life, v. 11.<li>
- Live an honest open life, v. 12.
- Live according to the law of the land, as far as you can, vv. 13-15.
- Live careful lives, do not sin because you are free, v. 16.
- Work well for your employer, v. 18.
- Be Christlike if you are falsely accused, vv. 19-20.
- Remember Christ's example, vv. 21-23.
- Live as dead to sin and alive to righteousness, v. 24.
- Live under the guidance of our Shepherd, v. 25.
In verse 11, Peter urges his readers (and therefore us) to live according to these standards. He pleads with us to live this way. He reminds us that we are like strangers from another country who must behave well or we will bring shame on the country we represent.
A Christian may have his home alongside an unsaved family, but his life must be different from their lives. He has a message to give and a testimony to maintain.
These standards cover every part of our lives, our personal life, our family life, our employment and our life as a citizen of our country. Always there is set before us the example of Christ, who never sinned and never once was dishonest.
Can we do it? Yes, by the power and help of the Holy Spirit. Ask him for this today.
