DAY 16
BIBLE READING: Revelation 1:9-20
The Book of Revelation was written to Christians who were under-going persecution. Of course it is also for us, but it was first of all a message of comfort and encouragement for them.
They were being persecuted by an earthly king and it looked as if no-one could help them. John reminds them that there is one in heaven who is on the throne of the, universe, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing can happen to us which he has not allowed.
Secondly he is the first and the last-the beginning and the end. In other words, he can see the end of the road always, while we can only see one step at a time.
Christ also holds the keys of death and of the unseen world. They are not held by man. No cruel king or president holds them-even if they think their word is final. Christ is the one who decides when his loved ones go- home to be with him.
Finally he is not only in heaven but he is in the midst of the churches. Notice verse 13 and verse 20. Christ is right there, knowing what is going on in the churches and lovingly concerned about every detail.
Remember Christ now speaks from his throne. Before John could be a messenger to others, he himself had to see the Lord upon his throne.
Have you see him there? Do you always recognise him as Lord? That is what he is, now and always.
A WORD FOR TODAY:
'Bring forth the royal diadem and crown him Lord of all.'
