DAY 6
BIBLE READING: 1 Corinthians 2:7-16
There are two stages in Christian work: preaching the Gospel to sinners and teaching the deeper truths of the Bible to those who accept Christ. When Paul talked to the unsaved, he had one message. When he talked or wrote to Christians, he always sought to lead them on into the deeper things of God.
We never grow as we should if all we ever "hear or read are the first steps of the Gospel, however wonderful they may be. This is too often true in missionary situations. It is often true in Sunday schools and sometimes in church services.
God has wonderful plans for his children. He hasn't revealed all those plans to the world, but his Spirit is waiting to teach God's children what these things are.
The Spirit of God helps us to understand the Word of God, the Bible. The word 'search' in V.10 means to throw light onto something and that is what the Spirit of God does. He throws light onto the words we read and gives light to our minds to help us clearly understand what he wants us to know.
Verse 14 is also very helpful. So many times people say 'I can't understand the Bible' or 'I read it one time and I couldn't understand what I read'. This verse tells us the exact reason why they couldn't understand. To an unsaved person, the Bible is a closed, difficult book. But when they meet Jesus Christ, the Spirit of God comes into their lives then they have him always with them to help them understand what God has said and what God has planned for them.
Did the Corinthian church understand all this? We cannot say. But not many years after this letter was written the church at Corinth had completely disappeared.
If any church or any believer is going to stand for and grow in Christ, that church or that believer must give the Word of God its rightful place. They must recognise the work of the Spirit of God in teaching his truths to the children of God.
