| Our reading today makes some strong statements. Look at verse 13 again. It says plainly that we can know that we have eternal life. Yet so many Christians still have doubts about their salvation. Are you really sure yourself? How can we be really sure? 1. By believing the Word of God.
Just as you believed at first that Christ could save you, now you need to believe his Word that he has saved you. If you doubt that he has saved you, when you asked him to do it, you are saying 'I have done my part and he hasn't done his'. Believe what he says to you today. 2. By the witness of the Spirit-Romans 8:16.
The Bible is God's witness to us. The Holy Spirit is God's witness in us. He tells us we belong to God and he corrects us when we do wrong. 3. By a changed life-2 Corinthians 5:17.
There comes a wonderful change in the life of a person who accepts Christ. It may take some time for that change to be seen by others or by the person themselves, but it will come and will show clearly that that person has been truly born again. Are you really sure you belong to Christ? You have accepted him, haven't you? If so, then believe what he says and assurance will come to your heart. Blessed assurance Jesus is mine,

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. |
